something you may not have known…

my daughter had to give a speech at school, telling something about herself that others wouldn't know...

It’s a get together, a party, and annual celebration. A time when all my parent’s friends get just about as wasted as they would on New Years, while my brother and I sit back and laugh hysterically. It’s the time I look forward to - our yearly motorcycle party.

It’s a type of entertainment most of you wouldn’t expect to be at my house. You may also have not expected that my family even owns a motorcycle, but we do.

SO, every year in the spring, my family holds a small get together. We have about 15 of our close motorcycle friends ride down from Virginia and stay at our house.

I love watching them try to fit all their bikes in our garage like a puzzle. I always try to assist my mom in making the big BBQ dinner she cooks for everyone, since they always come in like they haven’t eaten in years!

All the guys are nice to my brother and I and are constantly picking on one of us, but we love it. It’s like my second family that no one really knows about. And if they were, in fact, my family then my two favorite uncles would be Uncle Frank and Uncle Jimmy. Frank always teaches me things that I’ll never need to know in life or things I just don’t care about. I always have fun around him till he’s had one to many. Once that point comes I go hang out with Jimmy, the older guy. We don’t ever talk since he sleeps the whole time. But after all the other noisy bikers I enjoy his silence.

The next morning they head out to a smoke out while me and my brother are left with the mess to clean up. But I don’t mind cause I just got to spend the past weekend with some of the most fun people I know- motorcyclists.

So, whether you’ve learned that I ride a motorcycle or have an annual motorcycle party or maybe that I have a second family, I hope you’ve seen part of me that you never have before.

the event she speaks of is the annual party we have at our house for the smoke out

we kick off the weekend with a party at our house. as with most things, it wasn’t really planned that way. quite a few years ago, the guys decided to go to the smoke out. to break up the trip, they decided to stop at our house. they’ve been doing it since…

this year is the 10th anniversary of the smoke out. they’ve changed the format a little. it’s now a weeklong event, starting in arizona and ending in north carolina. i’m figuring by the time it hits north carolina and we get there, it should be quite a party…

looking forward to it – both the party and the smoke out…

gotta ride more…

got a chance to do a little riding this weekend, about two hundred total miles over the two days… as i was riding around on saturday, i realized how little i’ve put on this year – about five hundred by saturday. ‘course i could throw out a bunch of excuses: weather, too busy, werkin’ from home, etc. but that’s all it’d be, excuses. i just gotta start ridin’ more…
